Fairbanks is Alaska's second largest city. University of Alaska Fairbanks: This 2,250-acre campus is home to the
Geophysical Institute, the Large Animal Research facility, the farm of the
Agricultural and Forestry Experimental Station and one of the state's top
natural history museums. Alaskaland Pioneer Park: Is a popular attraction. It is Alaska's only
frontier theme park. Visitors can take a stroll back in time and enjoy
entertainment throughout this 44-acre area. Population: Fairbanks-North Star Borough, 84,380. The city's economy is
linked to its role as a service and supply point for Interior and Arctic
industrial activities. Fairbanks played a key role during construction of the
trans-Alaska pipline in the 1970's. The Dalton Highway (formerly the North Slope
Haul Road) to Purdhoe Bay begins about 75 miles north of town. Fairbanks lies on the flat valley floor of the Tanana River on the banks of the Chena River. Bounded to the north, east and west by low rolling hills of birch and white spruce. To the south is the Alaska Range and Denali National Park. The Steese and Elliott highways lead north to the White Mountains.
This is a Cashe in the bush it is used to store meats and food for the winter.
The next 3 pictures are of Murphey's Dome out side of Fairbanks.
This is the Chena River by our house. We ride the snow machine on it in the winter. This was taken as we were waiting for the Yukon Quest 2000 dog teams to come threw. I was standing in the middle of the river.
