The Fire that wont stop.

A fire started by lightening on June 13 has burned 520,189.9 acres as of Saturday August 14. For the state of Alaska 1,857,104,6 acres has burned.

The smoke has crept into town more than we like. The picture below is one my husband took of a smoke cloud while he and the dog were out walking.

A few days later the  one below were taken on our deck. It blocked out most of the sun.

The picture below was taken on my deck the day after the smoke came to town. It stayed like that for the most part of a week. The bottom picture was taken 6/27/04.

Now it just comes and goes.

This was taken 7/03/04

So far there haven't been any lives lost. So we are all thankful for that.

Last weekend my husband and I went for a ride to see if our favorite camping area had survived. Lucky though the fire burned the other side of the road and didn't get the Lower Chatanika River  camp ground. We only had .36 inches of rain in June so the river is pretty low as you can see in the pictures below. Right now at the camp ground it is just a trickle.
