By using this tutorial you agree to my
terms
Feel free to use your own colors for this.
For this tutorial you will need
Jasc PSP
9 . This was written using 9 but it can be done in 8
and 7 with some adjustments.
For those that are
using my alpha channel canvas you can get it HERE For
PSP7 users you wont be able to use the distress brush.
The smudge brush I use you can get
SMUDGE BRUSH PRESETS AND
BRUSHES PJ-Distress is one that I use a lot to make a textured like
effect.
I
use
the
Hairy
brushes
If you don't have
them
you
can
get
the
brushes
HERE
For
those
using
the
alpha
channel
canvas:
For
each step load alpha
channel selections,
then flood fill
with certain colors.
To keep from typing
the same thing for
each layer I will
just type the layer
we will be working
on. After
you
have
flood
fill
the
layer
click on the lock
in the layer pallet.
Load
the barrel alpha channel, flood fill with the first
color on chart. Use 2 and 3 colors to spray all over
using airbrush setting below. Spray all over as
in second screen shot.

Use
the smudge brush pj-distress that you downloaded. Smudge
in a down ward curved angle like slats. Below
is what I cam up with.

Load
bands layer and flood fill with black. We will work
on them in a bit but first we need to draw some lines
for slats. Use the pen tool size 3 foreground color
black and background set to nil. Use the point to point
bezier and draw some line as in screen shot.

Click
back on the barrel layer. Click on selection tool then
selections/select all then click on barrel that will
select the barrel. Add new layer.
Change
to airbrush and use 4 and 5th color for shading as in
next screen shot. Smudge as before.

For
the slat lines gaussian blur 1.
Now
go back to the bands layer and lock the layer. Use 2nd
and 3rd color on chart and spray as you did before.
Smudge from side to side to blend colors. Go to Effects/texture
effects/texture/ apply the dimples preset. Below is
what I came up with.

Click
back on the barrel layer and select it again so it has
the ants around it. Add new layer and make sure it is
under the bands layer. Use black and air brush some
shadow then smudge it to blend. If your spray is too
dark just lower opacity to 50 to 75%. Below is what
I have so far.

Click
on inside layer and do the same as you did for the barrel
layer. Add new layer for the lines and light color for
shadings. When done go to Adjust/ brightness -16.
Go
back again to the barrel layer and select and add new
layer. Use black and go around the top back edges smudge
to blend. Use just a little around the front. Go around
the sides some too. Smudge to blend.
Click
on the hole layer and flood fill with black, spray some
white in center and smudge.
Hope everyone had fun with this.
