By using this tutorial you agree to my terms

Feel free to use your own colors for this.

For this tutorial you will need Jasc PSP 9 . This was written using 9 but it can be done in 8 or 7 with a few adjustments.

Instructions  for the shading is on the 3rd page.

We are going to use the pen tool to make our stem. Use the setting below for the pen tool. Point to Point.

Open  new canvas 350 X 800. Set foreground to and green color background to nil. Color doesn't matter right now. Add new vector layer naming it stems. Make sure you have the Draw Point to Point / Bezier curves checked . I know some times I have started to draw and it just didn't work right. I have forgotten to click on the bezier. Start at about , doesn't have to be perfect. Click once move curser up to about    click and hold down left mouse button, pull up and to the left let go of mouse button, as in first screen shot below. Move curser to about click once. Click the apply  Change the size of the line to 6. Draw 3 lines as in the third screen shot. Click apply. Change the size again to 4 and make more lines as in fourth screen shot.

Add new vector layer naming it buds. We are going to use the preset shape ellipse. Set foreground to nil and background to same as stems. I started on the right side. Make a small oval shape. Click on the pen tool. Click on the top node then right click and select symmetric. do the same for the bottom node. On the top one just pull out and down a little. On the bottom node push in to make a point to match the size of the stem.

Move over to the next stem to make another bud. Make a more rounder one. Click on top node. Pull it down a little then pull up on the handles as in first screen shot.  On the right side push in a little to flatten it. Make 2 more buds as in screen shot.

Add new vector layer name it leaves. We are going to start at the top right side to make some sort of leaves. I don't know what to call them they just sort of cover the stem joints. LOL

Click on the pen tool and keep the color set on the background. Make sure you click on Point to Point.  To make it easier to see I lowered the opacity of the color. I also used a darker green to see better

Click at #1 click once, click at about where #2 is and pull up and to the right. Let go of mouse and click where 3 is, let go and click about where # 4 is pull down a little and to the right. Do the same for the other 2 joints on the stem.

Click and pull node up to the left as in first screen shot let go of mouse. Click again it the area in the second screen shot. Pull node up and to the right let go. Move mouse to area in third screen shot. Turn and pull node down to the right as in screen shot. Click on the nodes to adjust till you leaf looks similar to what I have. To get a sharp point on the top node right click on it and choose cusp.

Continue on to make 4 more leaves. Add new vector layer for each of the leaves. Below is what I have I numbered them to the order they are to be drawn. That's all for the leaves. When we get ready to paint the leaves we will change the color to the same as the stems.
