 Candle Stick

Feel free to use your own colors for this.

For this tutorial you will need Jasc PSP X . This was written using 10 but it can be done in 9, 8 or 7 with a few adjustments.

This is a vector tutorial. Now no grumbling. It is simple shapes so it isn't that hard.

Open transparent image 450 X 750 background color is your choice. Right click color chart below to your hard drive. ( I snagged Sue's color chart for this. I really love her tea set and the colors looked good for this candle stick) Thanks Sue.

Set background to first color on chart and foreground to one of the darker ones. We will change it later so colors right now don't make much difference.

Click on the Preset shape tool, select the rectangle shape. Start at bottom of canvas about 100-600 drag out a rectangle to about  350-725. Put cursor on the top left node and hold down the Ctrl key and drag in towards center as in screen shot below. In the layer pallet click on the + sign to open then click on the symbol between the eye and word Rectangle. Then click on Objects/Align/Horz.Center in canvas, at the top of the tool bar.

I used the Ruler and Guides to make sure I keep the image sides even. Click on View/ Ruler then View Guides. Grab the left side of the ruler hold down the left mouse button and drag to the center of canvas 225. Now you will know exactly where your center is. Click on pen tool then right click on bottom node and change to symmetric. Add new node to center of bottom, pull down a little as in second screen shot. Click apply. Save often.

Make a rectangle as in first screen shot, put cursor on left bottom node and hold down Ctrl and drag inwards as you did before to look like second screen shot. Add a node on each side as in third screen shot. Pull handle on nodes just a little to get the rounded shape. Click apply.

Do the same for the next rectangle. You should have something like the screen shot below. Make another rectangle, move the top in as you did before. Change the node to asymmetric and pull node up as in screen shot. For the bottom nodes change to cusp and shape as in screen shot. Click apply.

Change the shape to ellipse. Draw out a ellipse as in screen shot below. Add 4 nodes in areas in screen shot.  Pull the 2 added at top even with the one in center of top. Change nodes to cusp turn bottom handle in towards center as in second screen shot. Do the same for the other side.

For the next node change to symmetric move it in as in screen shot. Do the same for the other side. The next node you will change it to cusp and turn handles as in screen shot. You should have a shape similar to the third screen shot.

Change to the rounded rectangle and draw out a top as in screen shot. Pull the 2 bottom center nodes down just a little.

You should have a candle stick similar to the one below.

Almost done now just have to add new vector layer. Use the pen tool change the line style to solid round ends size 8. Click on the Draw Point to Point - Bexier Curves. At this point color doesn't matter. Foreground color your choice and back ground set to nil.

Draw your lines as in screen shot. Grab the nodes at end and turn down just a bit to curve them.

Save your image, then duplicate it. Shift + D. Close the original. Click on the vector layers and convert to raster layer. Click on the lock in the layer pallet to lock the transparency.

Page 2 for painting.
