Chicken Coop

By using this tutorial you agree to my terms

Feel free to use your own colors for this.

For this tutorial you will need Jasc PSP 9 . This was written using 9 but it can be done in 8 and 7 with some adjustments.

For those that are using my alpha channel canvas you can get it HERE  For PSP7 users you wont be able to use the distress brush. So use the setting for the smudge 1.

The smudge brush I use you can get  SMUDGE BRUSH PRESETS AND BRUSHES  PJ-Distress is one that I use a lot to make a textured like effect.

Hairy brushes  If you don't have them you can get the brushes HERE

 Smudge 1

Air brush 1

Air brush 2

For those using the alpha channel canvas:   For each step load alpha channel selections, then flood fill with certain colors. To keep from typing the same thing for each layer I will just say the layer we will be working on. For most of this I use the pj-distress smudge brush to make the wood grain. After you have flood fill the layer click on the lock in the layer pallet.

We will be skipping around on the layers so make sure you are on the right layer as instructions.

Building: Flood fill with first color on chart. Use airbrush 1 settings. Use the 2, 3, 4, 5th and 6th colors as in screen shot. Darkest colors at the top. Smudge dragging brush from top to bottom.

Change to airbrush 2 settings. Use 6th and 7th colors.  Smudge straight down.  Click at top then hold down the shift key and move curser to bottom and click once. Doing this you don't smudge too much.

Click on pen tool, size 1 color black. Draw some lines (for slats). Convert to raster layer gaussian blur 1.  Load building alpha channel invert then click on the lines layer. That will take care any lines that were too long or blur. Merge these layers.

Wall Trim: Flood fill with 2nd color on chart. Air brush with 3rd and 7th color. Smudge going down. Apply cut out  vertical and horizontal 0, opacity 100, blur 7, color #231400.

Door:  Flood fill with first color on door color chart. Use the other 3 for shading as you did above. Use pen tool again to make the slat lines as before. Use color #4a2814, gaussian blur .50.

Door and window frame: Flood fill with white. Use 3 of the gray colors (your choice) Air brush as you did before on the building.  Change airbrush to settings below. Color black.

Click once at the top corner edge, hold shift key down and move cursor to bottom and click once.

Door Hinges: Flood fill with gray, Apply inner bevel metallic, change width to 4.

Inside window: Flood fill with #404040.

Glass: Flood fill with #676d6b

Glass frame: Flood fill with black.

Click back on the inside window layer. Airbrush black as in screen shot, use color #322d1e around the bottom as in screen shot. Smudge to blend.

Change smudge brush to hairy brush using these settings.

Click on glass layer. Airbrush with white as in screen shot below. Smudge to blend.

For the glass frame all I did was gaussian blur .50.

Roof: Flood fill with first color on roof color chart.  Change color to black and airbrush a little then smudge.

Roof Supports: Flood fill with first color. Airbrush 2nd color on chart to supports as in screen shot. Smudge to blend.

Roof Inside:  Do the same as above.

Roof Trim: Flood fill with 2nd color on chart. Airbrush all over with 3rd color and 4 color on edges and heavy down the center. Smudge to blend.

Little Door and ramp:  (for chickens to go into coop) LOL  flood fill with first color on chart. Airbrush using the other 3 colors on chart. Smudge to blend.

Click back on the building layer. Click on the selection tool. Use the rectangle and make a rectangle on the right side of building. Click on the selection to make it select just that area.  Go to Adjust/brightness/contrast/ -45. Do the same for the roof trim.

Select the left side as you did above. Add new layer and move it up above the door hinges layer. We are going to add some shading at the top. Use paint brush color black and paint solid line as in screen shot below. Lower opacity to about 25.

Fence Back frame:  Flood fill with #775629.  Use colors #6e6755 and  #404040 for shading. Smudge to blend.  Apply cut out  vertical and horizontal 0, opacity 100, blur 7, color #231400.  Do the same for fence front frame and gate.

Fence wires: Flood fill with #9d9684. Apply metallic inner bevel.

Hope everyone had fun with this.
