Easy Pen Flowers

Feel free to use your own colors for this.

By using this tutorial you agree to my terms

For this tutorial you will need Jasc PSP 8 or PSP 7.

1. Open new canvas 300X300 set white as your background color. We are going to use the Pen Tool . Click on the point to point button or free hand, create as vector checked and line width .50. Some times I find it easier to draw with the point to point. I will leave it up to you to decide what you like best. Set foreground color to #EFD838, background to #F1EA85. Or choose your own colors. Draw out a oval shaped center for the flower.  Double click on one of the nodes to select them all. Right click on canvas go to node type/symmetric. Right click again to go to edit/select none. ( I work a lot with vector's so I have the vector select all and select none short cut on my tool bar, so I don't have to use the drop down menus) Now you can adjust the nodes to make the shape rounder or curve them. Grab the arrow at either end to move it.   If you need more nodes just put curser on line where you want a node. Hold down the Ctrl and click the left mouse once.

Do Not Convert to raster, leave it in vector so it can be adjusted later if need be.

2. I lower the opacity of the center layer to about 42 so I can see threw it. Change your colors to foreground #443367, background #9189AF.  Add new vector layer move it down under the center layer.  Click on the new shape button when you start a new petal.  Draw out a petal similar to screen shot.  Make adjustments with the node as necessary. Add a new vector layer and continue on around till you have something like this.

3. Now for the leaves. I used #254707 for the foreground, and #1D7D07 for the background. Add new vector layer and draw out a leaf.  Do your leaves same as you did the petals. It is easier to twist the nodes to get a point for the leaf instead of drawing a point. If you get more nodes than you need just right click on canvas and go to edit/delete. I find that when I try to draw a point I end up with a bunch of nodes I don't need. Continue on with your leaves. Whew now the hard part is done. Now is the time to check your flower and make any adjustments to the leaves or petals. If you find one you need to adjust click on the + in the layer in the pallet. Then click on the  New Shape line then click on the pen tool. Now you will see the node on the petal or leaf and you can turn or twist them to adjust them how you want.

4. Save your flower. Make a duplicate Shift+D. Close the original. Right click on the layer pallet and choose convert to raster layer. Do that for each layer.  Click on the lock in the layer pallet. Might as well lock all layers now so you don't forget to do each one. lol Use the air brush with these settings.

You can adjust the size depends on how big you petals are. Air brush around the edges and little heavy at the end towards the center of the petal with the darker color. Change the size to about 17 and brush down the center line on the petal.

5. Switch to the lightness up/darkness tool.  Use these settings  Left click mouse button to lighten and right click button for darken. Click then move mouse and click again instead of holding down the mouse button. Makes it easier for me, instead of dragging it.   I have more control when I click click away. lol

6. Switch to the smudge brush using these settings. Start to pull the color in from the edges just a little to blend. Blend in some of your lighter places to. You can switch back and forth with the lightness brush to add some high lights here and there.  Continue on till you get them how you like them. Do the same for the leaves.

7. Click on the center layer. We are going to air brush some colors on it. I started with #EF710B around the edges. Change the density to 25 and add #EFD838, then add some tan and brown. Smudge and little on the edges then add a little color. I alternated between adding color and smudging and lighting up.

Hope everyone had fun with this.
