Elf Bear

For this tutorial you will need Jasc PSP 8 . This was written using 8 but it can be done in 7 with a few adjustments. You can get the alpha channel canvas and supplies here.

Airbrush settings.

Smudge settings.

1. Open alpha channel canvas click on pants layer and load pants alpha channel. Flood fill with 1st. pink colors on chart. Keep selected and add new layer. Set foreground color to 2nd color on chart and background to 3rd. Airbrush using the settings above as in screen shot. Smudge using setting above

2. Load alpha channel left boot. Flood fill with 1st. tan color. Use 2nd color to go around the edges of boots. 3rd. color for inside and 4th color for high light, Smudge Do the same for the other boot.

3. Load hands alpha channel hands flood fill with fur tile 528S2  scale 75%. Apply cut out with these settings, vertical and horizontal 0, opacity 85, blur 15 color 2nd on chart. Optional: Apply Eye Candy jiggle settings.

We are going to flood fill some layers first so we will see where to put the shading on the jacket.

4. Load alpha channel jacket, flood fill with 1st color on blue chart. Stitching flood fill with 2nd color on blue chart. Belt layer flood fill belt with 3rd color on brown chart, strap layer is same color as belt. We will come back to buckle layer later when we do the bells. Collar layer flood fill collar with 1st color on pink color chart.  

5. Click on jacket layer, load alpha channel add new raster layer. Use 2nd and 3rd color on blue chart. Use the darkest color to out line edges and arm cuffs and creases. Use the light blue for the high light in the middle areas as in screen shot.  Smudge

Add new layer. Set foreground color to #263f5c Make a line to the right of the center stitching. Change to white and add some to high light to the center areas as in screen shot. Then smudge

6. Load belt alpha channel. Flood fill with 3rd color on tan color chart. Use last color around edges, use 1st color as high light as in screen shot. After you smudge use air brush size 7 and add some dots for hole on belt.

 

7. Load collar alpha channel. Flood fill with first pink color. Spray around edges with 2nd color, use 3rd color for high light. Lightly apply white on top of the light pink for extra high light. Smudge moving towards points.

8.Load head alpha channel. Flood fill with same tile you used for the hands. Apply Eye Candy jiggle setting from above.   Load face alpha channel and flood fill with the 6th color on brown chart. Load eyes alpha channel and flood fill with black. In the layer palette click the lock  to lock the transparency. Spray a little white on the eyes and smudge see screen shot for placement of white. Do the same for the nose just use a dark brown.

9. Load hat alpha channel. Flood fill with 1st green color. Spray around edges with the 2nd color. Use 2nd color to add details as in screen shot. Use the 3rd color to add the high lights. Smudge

Ok now all that is left is the buckle and some bells, shoe laces.  Click on one of the boot layers. Add new layer and use the rope picture tube scale 25%. Draw out a bow like shoe lace as in screen shot. Click on Adjust/brightness/contrast  brightness -41.

Do the same for the collar. Then colorize hue: 252 Saturation: 93. Adjust/brightness/contrast brightness 41.

Get the bell from the zip and put one on the hat, resize the bell 75% or to the size you like. Sharpen once. Duplicate bell and move to collar. Put one each point. Duplicate again and resize then sharpen. Put 3 down the center of his jacket. Duplicate again resize and sharpen put one on each of the ties on his boots.

That's all there is to making the Elf Bear.
