Frog and Fly By using this tutorial you agree to my terms When I first saw this Hungry Frog font I knew what had to be done with it. I hope you like it. For this tutorial you will need Eye Candy 4000 and Jasc PSP You can get the Frog Bevel Boss preset here. Put it in the Bevel Boss folder. The font you can get here. You don't have to put the font in your windows font folder. I have a font folder inside my My Documents folder. I keep all extra fonts for tags and things in there. That way I don't have too many fonts in the main one. Just click open the font and minimize. When you open PSP it will be in the font list. We are going to start out with a rather large image. 800X500. Flood fill with light green or any color you like. 1. Set background color to black,
foreground to nil. Click on
the text tool 2. Click on font again. Set size at 72. Type your name (or word you want) and the #1.
Use the center arrow to line up the first letter. Use the down arrow to squish the letter down a bit. Just enough to where they will look like they are going to go into the frogs mouth. Convert to raster. 3. We are going to do some erasing of some of the lines on the letters, define some of the lines that aren't quite dark enough. Click on the layer that has the letters on it. Use your draw tool set at 1 vector unchecked, single line. On the lines across some aren't completely solid. Draw across them so there are no gaps. Click on the frog layer. We need to erase the part of the tounge line that over laps the letters. Then we need to draw the tounge lines so they match up with the lines in the letters. I used the bezier curve for the curve part of the tounge. See image below as to how the lines should be.
Check all the lines for gaps on the letters and fly and the frog. Fill in if there are any. Use draw tool or brush set at 1. 4. We are going to paint our frog first. Click on magic wand, tolerance set at 40. Hold down the shift key while clicking in the inside areas of the frog. Selections/modify/expand by 1. Add new layer and flood fill with a green I used #2D9539. Zoom in to check and make sure all corners and parts got covered. Move this layer under frog layer. Apply eye candy bevel boss settings named Frog. For the tounge, inter part of the mouth just use paint brush and paint each on separate layer and apply bevel boss settings. For the white of the eyes don't use bevel. Turn off the letter layer and the color layer, merge visible all frog layers. 5. Click on letter layer and do the same as in step 4. 6. Click on color layer. This is going to be our lilly pad. Or what ever you want your frog to sit on. I used the draw tool, antialias, create as vector and close path checked. Line type freehand, size 1. Foreground color black, background lighter shade of green. Apply same bevel settings. Draw him a lilly pad or something to sit on, then convert to raster layer. Add what ever other things you want on there for decoration. 7. Turn on the grid. View/Grid. You may have to adjust the layers to where they line up with a vertical line. Or adjust the grid size. Which ever is easier for you. We don't need it so big now so use the crop tool to size it down. 8. Now go to File/Export/JPEG Optimizer. Click on the Quality tab, Set compression value to 1. Click ok now you name this 1. I save them to my desk top. Your letter layer should be under the frog layer. If not move it down now. Click on the mover tool and slid the letter layer in the frogs mouth, about half way threw the first letter.
If your name has a lot of letter you may want to move one letter at a time to save on frames. But that is a personal choice. If any letter shows on the left side of frog just erase it. As we move more over you will be erasing them from the left side. Save this image as 2. Keep going and save after each move. You will have to erase some of the frog tounge as you go. When you get to the fly use the smudge tool to blend the edge of the frogs tounge to the fly part of the tounge. For the last image just erase the fly.
You should have something like the image above. Go on to page 2 for the animation.
