Out House

By using this tutorial you agree to my terms

Feel free to use your own colors for this.

For this tutorial you will need Jasc PSP 9 . This was written using 9 but it can be done in 8 and 7 with some adjustments.

For those that are using my alpha channel canvas you can get it HERE  For PSP7 users you wont be able to use the distress brush. So use the setting for the smudge 1.

The smudge brush I use you can get  SMUDGE BRUSH PRESETS AND BRUSHES  PJ-Distress is one that I use a lot to make a textured like effect.

Hairy brushes  If you don't have them you can get the brushes HERE

 Smudge 1

Air brush 1

Air brush 2

For those using the alpha channel canvas:   For each step load alpha channel selections, then flood fill with certain colors. To keep from typing the same thing for each layer I will just say the layer we will be working on. For most of this I use the pj-distress smudge brush to make the wood grain. After you have flood fill the layer click on the lock in the layer pallet.

Roof bottom: Flood fill with #231400

Building walls:  Flood fill with first color on chart. Use 2nd and 3rd color and spray all over here and there. Use airbrush 1 settings. Change to colors 4th and 5th. Use airbrush 2 settings. Below is what I did. As you can see I have gone ahead and flood filled my layers to see better where I spray. It is your choice to do it or not. Smudge with the pj-distress brush. Add new layer and use the 4th color and spray some as in second screen shot. smudge again

Slat lines: Use the pen tool size 2 color black, Draw out the lines then convert to raster and gaussian blur 1.

Trim: Do the same as walls. Adjust/brightness/contrast/ -20. Add new layer move it below trim layer. Use paint brush, color black paint on each side of middle part. Lower opacity so it looks like shading.

Door and window trim: Do the same as you did for the building walls.  For the top and bottom of the window shade going left to right, for the sides go up and down. Change to paint brush size2. Paint some lines as in screen shot below. Apply drop shadow, vertical -1 and horizontal 1, opacity 100, blur 1 color black, shadow on new layer checked.

Slat lines for door: Do as you did for the building.

Window screen:  Use preset shape rectangle. Add new vector layer and move it below the window layer. Set foreground color to nil and background color to black. Make a rectangle just a little bit bigger than the hole in window. Convert to raster layer. Go to Effect/ texture effect/weave. Use these settings. Gap size: 1, Width: 1, opacity 65, weave color 808080, gap color black, Fill gaps checked.

Hinges and handle: Flood fill with #404040. Apply inner bevel metallic.

Door trim 2: Flood fill with first color on chart. Airbrush the same as you did before. Smudge from left to right. Apply same drop shadow as window.

Roof 2: Flood fill with 4th color on chart.  Use 1st, 3rd and 5th colors for shading.

Roof 3: Flood fill with black. Apply cutout vertical -1, horizontal -2, opacity 65, blur 2 and color white. On the right edge paint the white part black.

Load building alpha channel add new layer. Use paint brush solid color black. Paint as in screen shot below. Lower opacity to about 20 then gaussian blur 1.

That's all there is to your Outhouse.

Hope everyone had fun with this.
