Santa's Sleigh

For this tutorial you will need Jasc PSP 10 . This was written using 10 but it can be done in 8 or 7or 9, with a few adjustments.

We will be using the pen tool and simple vector shapes. Open new canvas 800X275.

Set pen tool to size 4 foreground color black and background set to nil. Check connect segments, create on vector and show nodes. Click on draw point to point. Add new vector layer naming runner. Draw runner as in screen shot below. Click apply. Change size to 2. On same vector layer draw some lines as in second screen shot. Click apply.

Add new vector layer naming sleigh. Set foreground to nil and background color to #83896F. Use preset shape ellipse. Drag out a ellipse as in screen shot below. I added 6 more nodes. Pull out the nodes till you get a sleigh shape simular to the second screen shot.

Add new vector layer named bag. Move it below the sleigh layer. I used color #547E8F. Make a ellipse as in screen shot below.

Add new vector layer named Santa. I used color #802125. Use ellipse again and draw out shape as in screen shot.

Add new vector layer for the head. I used color #f7e1cf. Drag out a head similar to screen shot. Most of his head wont show so it doesn't have to be perfect.

Now we are going to do the beard so change to color white. Add new vector layer. Draw out a shape as in screen shot. Go ahead and do the hat and hat trim shapes. When you get them done go back to the head and adjust it to fit. Do the same for the beard and hat. I was easier for me to do them all then go back and adjust to fit. Below is what I ended up with.

Add new vector layer name reindeer. Change background color to #B88163. Draw out the reindeer similar to screen shot below. We need 3 more reindeer. Instead of making 3 more from scratch just duplicate layer, move it over some then click on the object selection tool to get the bounding box around it so you can turn the angle up or down.

Below is what I came up with.

Add new vector layer use pen tool size 2, color #462610, and draw some antlers.

Add new vector layer and move it above the reindeer layers. Use pen tool same as you did for antlers. Draw in the reigns. Click apply. Change size to 3 draw some lines by their nose for the reigns to hook on to. When you get them how you want. I duplicate the layer just in case I want to change it. Hide the duplicate layer. Convert the other reign layer to raster. Below is what I have done.

Use the eraser tool and erase the top reign so it looks like it is behind the head. As in screen shot below.

Add new vector layer harness 2. I used the pen tool for this too. Size 9. Draw harness as in screen shot below.

That's all there is to drawing your Santa's Sleight.
