Sun Flower

By using this tutorial you agree to my terms

Feel free to use your own colors for this.

Make them any way you want.

This is just how I make them and you can do them your way.

For this tutorial you will need Eye Candy 4000 and Jasc PSP

Right click and save to your hard drive the color charts below if you want to use my colors.

This is just  simple drawing no vectors.

Open image 500X500. I like to have plenty of room to work.

Select the preset shape tool , use ellipse using line width 1, antialias and create as vector checked. Color 3 for foreground and 4 for background. Draw out circle about 75X75, convert to raster. Name this layer center.

Click on draw tool , freehand line width 1, antialias, create as vector and close path checked. Color 1 for foreground and 2 for background. Click on bottom layer we are going to draw the  flower petals. Leave some space between them. Turn off the center layer and merge visible the petals layers. Name it bottom petals.

Now do the same for the next layer, fill in the gaps of the flower.

The next layer will be just a bit shorter in length and close together. Some skinny and some fat ones. Just kind of do your own thing.

Save your flower and ctrl + D to make a duplicate. We are going to paint this one and if a mistake is made or it looks bad (like my first one did) we wont have to go threw a hundred undo's. LOL

Turn off all layers but the bottom petal layer. Click on the lock in the layer palette to lock the transparence. Choose the last two colors on the color chart. Click on the airbrush tool, size 255, hardness90, opacity 100, step 25 and density 14. Click once on the pedals for foreground color and move slightly for the background color. Darker color first.

Switch to the retouch tool . Select the smudge tool with these settings. Size 30, hardness 0, opacity 50, step 1, density 50. You can adjust the size so it covers the whole petal with one stroke. Start at the center of the flower and drag out to the end of petal. To get some of the brown on the side to make some shadow go from the side in a bit.

It doesn't look like much now but it will. Continue on to each petal. Don't fuss with it to much now well will do some touch ups and adjusting when we get the rest of the layers done.

Click open the foreground color box and click on the light down arrow and slide the color down to a lighter color. Do the same for the background color. We want just a shade difference in the colors.

Do the same for the last layer of petals. Add just a little bit more yellow to this layer. You should have something like this now.

Click on the center layer that you started with. Use effects/texture effects/tiles. Use these settings.

Now apply the Eye candy 4000 jiggle with these settings.

Apply gaussian blur 1. Almost done now. Just have to do some touch up and drop shadow and the leaves and stem and our sunflower is done.

Use the retouch tool again selecting the Lightness Up RGB, size 9, hardness 0, opacity 25, step 1, density100. Add some highlights to the outer edges of the bottom layer of the pedals.

Do the same for the other two layers of the petals. Add a little highlight here and there. You can basically do what you want at this point. You can add some more color then smudge or darken with the Darken RGB tool. Use the smudge tool to blend the colors more.

When you are done playing (lol) unlock all your layers and add drop shadow.  Vertical1, horizontal -1, opacity 60, blur11.5, color #A27F06 to each layer. Merge visible all layers.

For the leaves you do basically the same as you did for the flower petals. Use draw tool to make the shape of the stem and leaves. Lock in transparency. Air brush a dark color then light color. Smudge the colors to blend, use lightness up RGB and Darken RGB tools to add high lights. Apply drop shadow. Use draw tool with create as vector and close path unchecked to draw some veins in the leaf. Use smudge or soften tool to smooth them out some.

Hope everyone had fun with this.
